Short-Term Running Goals:

  • Sub 40:00 10K
  • 2:59 Marathon
  • 1:25 Half Marathon
  • 18:30 5K

Long-Term Running Goals:

Maintain my health and continuously seek to improve my fitness. Maybe someday get under 3:00 for marathon. More importantly, I'd like to figure out what my maximum ability is and reach that.

I'd also like to find the right balance in life and use running to enhance and improve myself.

Personal:

Dad of  three (welcome Charlotte Dani on 8/10/20) awesome kids and stepdad to three almost as awesome as my own kids.

I have a brown dog named Stella, and three cats - Catty, Tortie, and Esperanza.

(old lines that were a little out of date but couldn't quite bring myself to removing them completely:) Also, have one wonderful brown dog named Sammy and just added a grey tiger cat (Catty) whose life started out rough but now has a better home.

I've recently started another blog so I can easily add lots of pictures and so other non-FRB users can leave comments:

Forward Progress!

Also, for 2012 I started a blog to write down each day one thing that I am grateful for

Grateful Blog

Love living in Florida but love to travel and see the country and rest of the world.

Started running with Stella, first up and down the street near the house and then to just past the gate and back for a total of about 2 miles with Stella.  It was pretty warm and we were both hot. Dropped her off at home and then ran out to the golf course water fountain and back.

It was tough starting out but I was able to somehow put together 5ish miles.

First mile was slow and difficult, had to walk a couple of times but eventually got "faster" and finished the first mile in 11:00.  Rest of the run was good, though.  Ran to Longleaf, dropped off my gatorade and then ran out and back to just past the bridge, came back and picked up my gatorade.  Did not run into any stragglers from the 5:30 group like I did last time.

After I finished the last full mile, picked up the pace and did the last 0.72 at 6:57 pace.

Ran with Joe and Jamie, about 7:00am start time.  First run with Jamie in a while since she had been in Buffalo.  Run felt kind of tough but great to have the company along.  My garmin battery died at 6.77 miles, but I had just crossed Trinity Blvd, so a little over 0.5 miles.

Ran with Stella around the neighborhood loop (1.7 miles), then did another short out and back from my house without Stella.  Weather was reasonably pleasant, I was a little bit short on time since I had to be at work for 9:00 telecon.

Saw a really beautiful scene of sunlight coming through the clouds just after sunrise, decided to make sure and make a note of it.

Housing situation is still in flux.

Ran with Jamie in the neighborhood.  Stopped once briefly but mainly just kept a steady pace.  Weather was not too bad.

Today's run was a failed attempt at running 20 miles with Jamie.  Left from my house and met Jamie and Daisy at the gate, then we continued to Starkey Blvd and headed directly into Starkey Park to the Striders meeting area.  Legs were feeling a little bit tired, but it was overall an easy pace.  Plan was to top off our drinks, head back out until we reached ten miles, then turn back for a quick top off again, and then one more stop at the corner of Alico Pass.

As we headed out, we saw a slightly bedraggled looking Cynthia heading back.  We tried to see if she'd turn around and run with us until our turn around.  Instead we all decided to turn around and then we'd make up the miles at the end.

My legs had other ideas, not at all happy.  We ran to Diane's house to drop off Cynthia and hopefully a very quick stop.  Stop turned into a little bit longer than planned.  Jamie, Daisy, and I left Diane's - my legs had gotten worse.  By the time we got to the corner I felt pretty much done.  I was going to wait there until Renee or Cynthia drove by.  After a little while I changed my mind and caught up to Daisy and Jamie.  But, by the time I reached the bridge I was really done.

At this point there was a light rain and a small breeze so at least it was no longer oppressive.  I did not have my phone with me to call anyone so I decided I'd just walk home (about 4 miles to go).  Walking felt nice and after a little bit I decided to walk/run.  The running part felt good as long as not too long.  I decided to start my watch again.  Pace was actually faster than my last "running" mile.

I saw Jamie and Daisy again because they had stopped at Havana Dreamers, ran with them a little bit, then lost them again but kept them in my sights up until they turned into Foxwood.

So, no twenty miles, a much slower pace, but at least a comeback from almost walking the last 4 miles.
