Not the usual Monday routine, but a tempo run instead. 4 miles @ 6:25 average plus warm up and cool down. That's what was on the schedule, probably because I have a 10K this weekend. This Saturday night at midnight on the usually sunny Dunedin causeway out to Honeymoon Island is the July 4th Midnight Run 10K (there's also a 5K and 1 mile but I'm just doing the one race). Ok, back to the run. Goal was 2-4 miles @ 6:24-6:41 pace. I warmed up with almost 3 miles of easy running. The warm up was a little bit longer so I could get to a water fountain, drink a little and splash some on me. The tempo portion felt pretty good. It was hard but I wasn't struggling and never hit that hopeless feeling I sometimes get mid way through a hard run. Splits: 6:31, 6:26, 6:24, 6:19 Jogged back home for the cool down for a total of a bit over 9 miles. If I can pull off this pace on Saturday night I could break 40 minutes again. It will be a bit hotter on race night but I'll have to see what happens. Average pace: 7:23
