Long-Term Running Goals:

Maintain my health and continuously seek to improve my fitness. Maybe someday get under 3:00 for marathon. More importantly, I'd like to figure out what my maximum ability is and reach that.

I'd also like to find the right balance in life and use running to enhance and improve myself.

Personal:

Dad of  three (welcome Charlotte Dani on 8/10/20) awesome kids and stepdad to three almost as awesome as my own kids.

I have a brown dog named Stella, and three cats - Catty, Tortie, and Esperanza.

(old lines that were a little out of date but couldn't quite bring myself to removing them completely:) Also, have one wonderful brown dog named Sammy and just added a grey tiger cat (Catty) whose life started out rough but now has a better home.

I've recently started another blog so I can easily add lots of pictures and so other non-FRB users can leave comments:

Forward Progress!

Also, for 2012 I started a blog to write down each day one thing that I am grateful for

Grateful Blog

Three weeks ago I did a similar run.  Today was Yasso 800's day, with a goal of 10 X 800m @ 3:00 each, with 3:00 jog between each repeat.

Warmed up with 2 easy miles.   Jenny originally was supposed to do a tempo run this morning but decided to change to 800's because they sounded more fun!  So, we started out together on the first one.  I stopped immediately because the Garmin's database was full.  Cleared it out, then started again.

I felt good on the first one.  I almost always feel good on the first one, was wondering what the second one would be like.  That one wasn't so bad either.  I seemed to be feeling a bit better than last time.  What happened to me last time, was usually about half way through one of the repeats, I would fall off pace and struggle to get back on and just barely make it at the end.

They were definitely hard, but I felt a little bit more in control.  Jenny and I criss-crossed, and finally after I had done 5 repeats, we were near the water fountain.  Split a powerbar gel (I also had a 10oz bottle filled with gatorade I was taking sips from between repeats), then I got going again.

For the last three, my legs were feeling a bit tired, which is good practice.

Splits: 2:58, 2:55, 2:59, 2:59, 2:56, 2:59, 2:55, 2:57, 3:00, 2:53

Very happy with the last split!

I was happy to see a small amount of improvement from 3 weeks ago along with the fact that it was slightly warmer this morning than last time, although not by much.

Met back up with Jenny for the cool down jog back home.

Do you do these 800s on a track or somewhere else? If they really are a good predictor of marathon time, then you've got that 2:59 in the bag.

Great workout, nice splits and good job on nailing that last one!

That's a pretty impressive workout. Has to be great for your confidence.

Thanks everyone!

I did the repeats on the street. I just set my Garmin to half mile intervals. Hopefully it was close enough to an actual 800.

I hope there is at least a grain of truth to the Yasso 800 theory. McMillan says that to be on the safe side, you really need to be able to do these 5 seconds faster than what Yasso says.

Anyway, it was a good feeling to see the improvement.
